The Steps to Build Brick Walkway
- Cleaning and Marking
Before building the walkway, it is necessary that you clear the path of any outgrowth and stones and dirt. This is to ensure longevity of your walkway. So you have to carefully clear the entire walkway of any growth or roots or dirt or stones.
Once the path is clean, mark both sides after measuring for consistency. Now you need to even the ground where the path has been marked. So use a mattock to press the soil down and get consistency.
- The Base
Cover the ground with a ground cover. Spread across your brick walkway, so that it prevents any plants to grow and break or loosen the brick walkway. Over the ground cover, lay at least 4” of crushed limestone. Once you have spread the crushed limestone, you would now need to make it even by using a screed and level.
- Sand and Bricks
Now cover the base with sand and then spread it with the back side of the rake. Once that is done press the sand with tamp. Once that is done, lay the border of the pathway with bricks. Softly tap the bricks down with a rubber mallet. Then using the pattern that you like, lay the bricks in the center starting from the edge.
